    Today brings to an end the second week of a rather light economic calendar. For whatever reason the scheduling of economic data being released for the past two weeks has been rather sparse. The stock market up until Wednesdayhad been continuing its slow and steady climb toward the $17,000 mark.

    WorkSource Center Hosts Free Recruitment Event For Several Full-Time Positions

    The Santa Clarita WorkSource Center will host a free recruitment event on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for a variety of full-time positions available with B&B Manufacturing. The event will be held at College of the Canyons in Suite 250 at the University Center, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road. 

    College Of The Canyons To Present 5th Annual CareerCampSCV

    The College of the Canyons Job & Career Center will present its fifth annual CareerCampSCV event, providing students and community members with a rewarding, educational and extremely interesting day of career-themed speakers and workshops.

    CareerCampSCV will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, located on the college’s Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).

    New Art Exhibit Now On Display At Old Town Newhall Library

    The City of Santa Clarita recently unveiled a new art exhibit, “Endangered and Endeared: A Retrospective of the Art of Diane Bruckner in Memoriam,” on display through July 11, 2014in the Community Room at the Old Town Newhall Library.  Bruckner was a local artist who won numerous awards for her ability to capture the essence and character of animals and for her depictions of endangered species.

    Charles Helmers Elementary School Earns PTA Student Achievement Award

    On Friday, May 9, 2014, HelmersElementary School was awarded the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Spotlight Award for Student Achievement.  They won this prestigious award from among 5,000 other elementary PTAs in California. The award was based on their FIT TEAM program established in 2004 to create a school fitness experience that would go beyond the state mandated 200 minutes of physical fitness every 10 days. The PTA wanted to offer every child an opportunity to be active in a fun environment.

    Former Dodgers Pitcher, Bob Welch, Dies At 57

    Bob Welch, a former Cy Young Award winner and the last Major League pitcher to win at least 25 games in a season, died Monday night of a heart attack at the age of 57.

    Welch, a two-time All-Star who posted a 27-6 record as the Cy Young Award winner on the Athletics' 1990 American League championship team, died in Seal Beach, Calif.

    Special Victims Bureau Arrests Santa Clarita Valley Man For Lewd Act

    Sheriff's Department personnel with the Special Victims Bureau arrested three men between May 14 and June 4, during a sting to identify child predators using the Internet to engage children. One of the suspects is a Santa Clarita Valley resident.
