    Shutdown Ended, Debt Default Averted By Last Minute Bill

    President Barack Obama signed a bill early Thursday morning that ended the 16-day government shutdown and averted a default on the national debt. The bill had previously passed in both houses after a bipartisan compromise in the Senate on Wednesday.

    Football, blues and honoring college alumni and friends—that’s what College of the Canyons’ Homecoming Weekend is all about.

    The Homecoming Weekend will include the induction of the 2013 Outstanding Alumni & Friends into the college’s Alumni Hall of Fame, a special pre-show reception for the Official Blues Brothers Revue show at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) and a tailgate party to celebrate the Cougar football team’s homecoming game.

    Playwrights from the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond are invited to submit their new and original plays, single acts, scenes and monologues for the 14th Annual New Works Festival (NWF) at College of the Canyons.

    The NWF is a playwright development process and festival open to writers, students and community members of all ages. Considered pieces must be original works submitted by the original writer.

    Government Shutdown Could End Today, Pending Passage In Both Houses

    United States Senators have reached an agreement that could end the government shutdown on Wednesday, pending House approval. The proposed plan would reopen the government through mid-January.

    City Receives Grant Funding From The Environmental Enhancement And Mitigation Program

    The City of Santa Clarita received a $350,000 grant from the California Natural Resources Agency this month as part of the Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Grant Program (EEMP) for the Southern Boundary Wildlife Corridor Conservation project.

    AMS Fulfillment in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and local Youth Activities League Center is giving at risk youth a second chance through job training and employment. They gain valuable skills to help them enter the workforce.
