    UPDATE: Two COC Football Players Killed, One Critically Injured In Crash

    Two College of the Canyons football players were killed Friday in a car crash that also left a third football player in critical condition, college officials confirmed.

    The deceased victims were identified as Isaiah Hastings, 19, of Lancaster, and Alexander Manu, 18, of Reseda. The surviving victim was identified as Eldridge Salguero, 18, of Van Nuys.

    COC Veterans Center Sees Rise In Number Of Student Veterans

    College of the Canyons Adult Reentry and Veterans Center staff are noting a rise in the number of student veterans coming to them for assistance, college officials announced Wednesday.

    Center officials saw about 20 percent more veterans during the 2013-2014 academic year compared to the previous year, bringing their total for the year to more than 1,000 veterans assisted, according to a COC news release.

    Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials issued a warning to residents Wednesday about a rise in rental and real estate scams in Santa Clarita.

    Rental scammers commonly list ‘fake’ properties online at a low price, collect cash and personal information and disappear before the victim discovers they were given a fake listing on a property that doesn’t actually belong to them, according to a Sheriff’s Station Nixle news release. 

    U-Haul Truck Catches Fire On I-5 North In Castaic, Starts Brush Fire

    A vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the I-5 North near Parker Road in Castaic started a brush fire on the freeway shoulder at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials confirmed.

    California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a U-Haul truck full of household goods that was fully engulfed in flames in the far right lane of the freeway at 1:39 p.m., CHP officials said.
