According to the CHP, normal patrol conditions have resumed in the area.
Rough weather is making it tough going over the Grapevine on the I-5 Freeway. CHP patrol cars have been providing extra lighting for vehicles traveling north of Santa Clarita over the Grapevine toward Bakersfield.
A 4.4 Earthquake awoke many Santa Clarita residents at 4:04am, Tuesday morning. According to Cal Tech, the event occurred 3-miles south, southwest of the Whittier Recreation Center, between Whittier and Rosemead, California. It's hypocentral depth is 11 miles.
The location is in the same area that hit Whittier on October 1,1987 with a 5.9 quake that caused considerable damage. Three people died as a direct result of that earthquake.
