The search warrants and arrests were all part of an ongoing investigation stemming from a theft of retail product from the Canyon Country Albertsons Store at 18571 Soledad Canyon Road on April 3, when more than $5,000 worth of diabetic test kits were stolen.
That case was eventually linked to other cases and a much larger investigation involving the San Jose Police Department, the FBI and IRS, into the theft of over-the-counter medications, and other retail items throughout the state of California dating back several months.
Van Nuys residents Eddie Cardona, 30, and Hugo Torchez, 27, were arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. Cardona is the subject of two felony warrants for theft and burglary out of Torrance and Fremont, California as well as a felony burglary charge in this incident. He is being held in lieu of $44,500 bail. Torchez faces felony charges of receiving stolen property and burglary; he is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
