Sue Reynolds, Super-Volunteer, Is A Santa Clarita Unsung Hero

Mercedes-Benz of Valencia

Sue Reynolds of NewMarket CareersBy Stephen K. Peeples

As a senior partner with Valencia-based NewMarket Careers, Sue Reynolds is an accomplished small business owner who helps Santa Clarita Valley employees and the companies who need them find each other.

But outside her role as a mover and shaker in the Santa Clarita business community, Reynolds is a super-volunteer, although she would never refer to herself that way. She’s more comfortable with something like “professional busybody.”

The Newhall resident devotes untold hours to a wide range of local nonprofit organizations and service groups. She’s involved with myriad women’s issues, business education, veterans’ issues, the Boy Scouts, animal training for therapy and search and rescue, and much more.

That’s why Sue Reynolds is KHTS’s latest Santa Clarita Unsung Hero, brought to you by Mercedes-Benz of Valencia.

 Corporate Communications Career

Sue Reynolds is a Santa Clarita Unsung Hero brought to you by Mercedes-Benz of Valencia. In a long and colorful career, Reynolds has worked in marketing communications for international Fortune 50 corporations and huge government agencies like NASA all the way down to small Mom and Pop businesses in Santa Clarita.

“She has managed the messages of executives as they’ve grown companies, and closed plants, broken ground, and rallied the troops, while becoming a highly developed corporate trainer herself,” as her bio reads.

She graduated from high school early, and attended her local community college. Instructors there recommended her for her first communications job – at the Illinois Department of Corrections, illustrating teaching materials for prisoners. She then finished her studies in communications and graphic design at Indiana University.

For most of the last decade, Reynolds has been a key member taking leadership roles with both the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Industry Association. NewMarket Careers has earned a special recognition award from the Chamber and several “Small Business of the Year” nominations.

A Super-Volunteer Helping Women, Business Students

When it comes to helping other women, Reynolds is hyper-active. She is president of Soroptimist International of the Greater Santa Clarita Valley, active with the local Zonta chapter, on the board of the Domestic Violence Center, and an adviser to Circle of Hope.

Sue Reynolds and NoodleReynolds is devoted to further educating and training the local work force through the SCV Chamber (on the board’s executive committee), VIA (on its education committee since 2005), and the SCV Education Foundation (helping coordinate the annual Teacher Tribute, Principal for a Day and Lit Fest events). She’s been a frequent presenter at seminars and workshops hosted by the Association of Women Entrepreneurs and at College of the Canyons’ Women’s Conferences.

SCV Habitat for Heroes, Animal Search & Rescue

Reynolds also works with the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valley chapter of Habitat for Humanity, focusing on helping women veterans find jobs and housing and make the sometimes-difficult transition back to civilian life.

On Saturday, May 18, Reynolds will join members of Soroptimist and other local women’s groups for the “Habitat for Humanity Women’s Empowerment Build” at College of the Canyons’ Parking Lot 8.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., local women and men who sign up to volunteer will build sections of new homes constructed for low-income veteran families in Santa Clarita as part of the SCV Habitat for Heroes Veterans Village project, an offshoot of Habitat for Humanity. (No experience is necessary; visit www.sigscv.org to sign up.)

Originally from rural Illinois, Reynolds is a lifetime animal-lover as well. She was four when she rode a horse the first time through the cornfields on her parents’ farm.
