Los Angeles Sheriff

Santa Clarita Businesses are invited to a free crime prevention course.

Sponsored By:

San Diego Zoo - Koalafornia

The City of Santa Clarita, in collaboration with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Business Alliance will be offering a free course to all SCV businesses that will focus on crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED).

CPTED is an approach to problem solving that focuses on questions like the how and why certain locations and individuals are at risk of being the victims of crime.

In every problem, asking “why here?” reveals that opportunities for crime arise out of a variety of environmental conditions related to the building, the site, the location, and how the place is used.

The class is a resource for understanding and using crime prevention through environmental design as a problem-solving tool. The instruction explains the basic principles of CPTED and outlines a process for identifying problems, evaluating the physical environment, and identifying strategies that will remove or reduce opportunities for crime.

Working together with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (Santa Clarita Valley Station), and the City of Santa Clarita, local businesses and residents alike can do their part in preventing crime.

The business crime prevention class will be held at the SCV Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, September 18 at 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. This course is open to SCV Businesses for no charge, and a lunch will be provided.

For more information, please see the City of Santa Clarita – Sheriff’s Business Alliance website at or call (661) 255-4990.
