Live Oak Elementary Opens Computer Lab
Community effort results in state-of-the-art computer lab for students.
Students at Live Oak Elementary School in Castaic are online
and learning, thanks to a cooperative effort by the community, school administrators
and the PTA who helped raise the money for a new computer lab.
“Our very own students, the Live Oak Leopards, raised $7,061
in their Read-A-Thon, which was matched
dollar for dollar by the Castaic Education Foundation, so we had $14,102.
Chiquita Canyon Landfill gave us $5,000 and our PTA “cow plop” event was
designated as a fundraiser for the computer lab and raised $9,600,” explained
Live Oak Principal Cynthia Seamands.
“All of those contributions allowed us to open our computer
lab within a year,” she continued. The lab contains 40 student computers and
one for the teacher. “It’s state-of-the-art and a wonderful blessing for our
students. Many of them don’t have a computer at home, but today, they need to
know how to navigate the information highway and use technology. We’re just thrilled
to have our computer lab.”
