SCV Outdoor Report: A Little Night Music
By Wendy Langhans

Sometimes I go in search of stories and sometimes they go in search of me.  Sometimes...they even pay a visit to my back porch.

While I was watering the plants on our back porch, just before sunset, I spotted a small green leaf on the railing.  Being in a mood to tidy-up, I walked over to it.  That’s when I got a surprise.  It wasn’t a stray leaf - it was a Katydid, most likely a Broadwinged Katydid, Microcentrum rhombifolium (also known as Greater Angle-wing Katydid).  And she was waiting for the evening serenade to begin.

Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station Launches New Tip System

khts_crime_genericThe Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station recently developed and implemented a new system for tracking crime tips. Analysis of the first 30 days of the new crime tip tracking and investigation system has shown that the new program is working effectively and generating results.

Since implementation of the new crime tip program, 46 tips have been received and seven arrests have been made. 24 tips have been reviewed and closed, and 16 tips are actively being worked. The process is automated, provides a follow-up and accountability system, assigns specific sheriff’s personnel to each crime tip, and requires that tips are resolved in a timely manner.
