Kern County Raceway Welcomes NAPA Auto Parts 150

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West, fueled by Monster Energy at Kern County Raceway Park is welcomed back Saturday night for the “NAPA Auto Parts 150” on the half-mile track.

Derek Thorn of Bakersfield, ahead of Cameron Hayley from Canada,  is leading the points standings with only two more races to go.

The inaugural track champions for the NASCAR CITGO Lubricants Late Models and NASCAR Spec-Mods will be presented by Dickey’s BBQ and Fight for Life.  Zambelli Fireworks will wrap up the show.

The West Series last competed in Bakersfield at Mesa Marin Speedway in 2005 and bring 28 drivers from nine states and two provinces into town.  Bakersfield will be well-represented with 2013 CITGO Lubricants Late Model track champion David Mayhew driving for Steve McGowan and Bakersfield young gun Dallas Montes driving a car in partnership with the Smith Motorsports team that won the track Pro Late Model title.

Other West teams based in the Bakersfield area include that of three time race winner Michael Self, who hails from Park City, UT, NTS Motorsports with San Diego-area driver Brian Ickler, and Wilton's Jason Fensler will drive for Byron Campbell Motorsports.

The national flair of the series includes four Canadian drivers, plus several teams from Idaho and Arizona.  The long tow might be Gray Gaulding, the 15 year-old Colonial Heights, VA driver in the Krispy Kreme-sponsored Toyota.  NAPA Auto Parts will support three Bill McAnally Racing entries including former series champion Eric Holmes and open-wheel standouts Shane Golobic of Fremont, CA and Indiana's Chase Briscoe.

The NASCAR CITGO Lubricants Late Models will run for 50 laps for $2,000 to win out of an $11,000 purse, with series champion David Mayhew electing to skip the final points race.  Second in points Eric Richardson will look for his fifth win against of field of drivers coming from across the West Coast.

On the NASCAR Spec-Mod side of things, Chris Dalton will look to finish off his championship year but only leads teammate Bailey Thompson by 24 points.  The Mods will race for 35 laps and $1,000 to the winner, presented by Dickey's BBQ and Fight for Life.

Saturday night's events are just $30 for Adults, $15 for Seniors 65+, Active Military, Children 6-15, and Children 5 and under are free!  Reserved stadium seats are $40.  Grandstand gates open at 3:30 p.m.followed by qualifying, with the first races at 5:30 p.m.  The NAPA Auto Parts 150 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West will go green at 7:35 p.m. with Zambelli Fireworks to follow the checkered flag.
