Displays of vintage and modern cars will be provided by the golden Empire Mustangs car club which will be located in the VIP parking area near the front gate. JACK FM will be hosting a live remote broadcast and will be giving away prizes.
The Bakersfield racing community is racing with a heavy heart after the passing of Bakersfield Speedway official Steve O'Neill and a helmet will be passed through the pits and the grandstands to take donations for O'Neill's memorial fund.
The CITGO Late Models fresh off of their spectacular three-wide finish to a 50 lap contest on August 3rd. Points leader David Mayhew scored the narrow win aboard Steve McGowan's MMI Services Chevrolet, to place himself third in the NASCAR California State points standings. Mayhew has had a remarkable season with a perfect 13 top-fives in 13 starts, with eight wins.
Saturday's Twin 35s program could swing the door open for cousins Eric and Brian Richardson, who trail Mayhew in the championship standings. Driving nearly identically prepared Summeripe / Rich Pak Chevrolets, Eric has visited victory lane three times this year with Brian scoring a single win as well.
Gary Elmore and rookie Johnny White round out the top-five in the points, with Josh Horn, Paul Ebersbacher, rookies Ryan McDonald and Greg Szot, and Trevor Schlundt the balance of the top-ten.
Each 35 lap race for the NASCAR CITGO Lubricants Late Models will pay $1000 to win.
The Street Stocks will race for $350 to win on Saturday night in another non-points contest, with 25 laps scheduled. Irwindale standout Rich Delong III of Santa Clarita scored the win in the division's debut on July 20th that saw the top-four cars run in a closely wound pack through the caution-free race.
The Street Stock division will continue to run a sporadic schedule for the remainder of 2013 before becoming a full-time division in 2014.
NASCAR Mini Stock points leader Billy Lay increased his points lead to 20 points after getting his fourth division win last week. Second in points Racin' Vernon had a DNF after a crash and only leads Dylan Baker by 12 points in the battle for second in the standings.
