Mayhew and the CITGO Lubricants Late Models are going to run a pair of 35 lap contests along with the half-mile NASCAR Pro Late Models and Street Stocks.  NASCAR Mini Stocks will be racing the quarter-mile speedway.

Saturday’s races will be located at the brand-new speedway are the final state and national points events with Mayhew training state points leader Jay Linstroth of Northern California by 60 points.  Mayhew, the CITGO Lubricants Late Model points leader, will need to accumulate nearly 100 points to overcome the deficit.

Points are earned by car count and Mayhew will be aided by addition of several Southern California based teams to try to challenge the field and the track.  Mayhew’s closest rival this season has been Eric Richardson, who trails by just 38 points in the track standings with racing to continue through the end of October.

The NASCAR Pro Late Model division has not yet seen a repeat winner this season and at least two winless drivers – Bakersfield’s Ryan Reed and Los Angeles’ Dan Holtz – are expected to compete for the $2500 win.  Single race winners Tim Smith and Kevin Thompson of New Braunfels, TX are separated by just two points in the fight for the track championship with three races left.

Street Stock races return to the half-mile speedway on Saturday as well with 25 laps of racing scheduled for a purse of $350 to win.  Delong Racing has had great success thus far, with Eric Sunness holding the track record qualifying lap while Rich Delong III won the event on August 17th.  The division may race in one additional event this year before a full NASCAR-sanctioned campaign in 2014.

Billy Lay won his fifth NASCAR Mini Stock race on August 31st to stretch his points lead to 36 points over single race winner Dylan Baker.  Two-time race winner Racin Vernon has slipped to third in the standings ahead of Justin Fine and the racing professor Pierre Peasha.  Saturday’s race for the Mini Stocks will be their tenth event already this year in stock four cylinder-powered entries.
