KHTS followed the story of a Vermont
man named Joe DeSena, who bicycled across the country to prepare for the
Furnace Creek 508 race, which began in Santa Clarita an ended in twenty-nine palms.

DeSena notified supporters that his team was disqualified
after 11 hours of racing and 206 miles. Three technical violations prompted the
disqualification, the last stemming from DeSena’s support truck mounted lights,
which stopped working.

Thus, in a flash the multi-week journey for DeSena came to
an end, as he is now on his way home. He told supporters that he was looking
forward seeing his family.
