buckmckeonHouse Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Howard P. The Obama Administration on November 13 announced that the "9/11 co-conspirators" would be brought to New York City and tried in civilian court instead of a war tribunal.

"Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his henchmen are responsible for planning and sanctioning the terrorist attacks that killed thousands of innocent civilians in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania," said Rep. McKeon.  "These guys are not petty criminals-they are hardened terrorists who still aspire to kill as many Americans as they can."

"The American people have a right to know more about these dangerous war criminals.   Once local communities understand the true intent of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other 9/11 co-conspirators, I'm confident they will not quietly acquiesce to the Administration's plans to move detainees from Guantanamo Bay into their backyards in the United States," continued McKeon.  "My hope is that the information garnered through this Resolution of Inquiry will begin to shed some light on the background and desires of these terrorists."

A Resolution of Inquiry is the strongest procedural tool Ranking Member McKeon can invoke and requires action by House Armed Services Committee within fourteen days of filing.  The text of the resolution follows:

Directing the Secretary of Defense to transmit to the House of Representatives copies of any document, record, memo, correspondence, or other communication of the Department of Defense, or any portion of such communication, that refers or relates to the trial or detention of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih, Mubarek Bin 'Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali, or Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi.

Resolved, That the House of Representatives directs the Secretary of Defense to transmit to the House of Representatives, not later than 14 days after the date of the adoption of this resolution, copies of any document, record, memo, correspondence, or other communication of the Department of Defense, or any portion of such communication, that refers or relates to the trial or detention of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarek Bin 'Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali, or Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi.
