tomsparksFormer KROQ personality Tom Sparks died Nov. 5 when he suffered a stroke after competing in the ultra-physical reality competition show "Wipeout," which is filmed in Sand Canyon.

Sparks, 33, complained of knee pain and shortness of breath after the competition and was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where it is reported he had several brain surgeries.

His father said a pre-existing condition was most likely the cause of his son's demise; Sparks had antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, a coagulation disorder that causes blood clots in both arteries and veins. Officials from Emdemol USA, the company that produces "Wipeout" said that he did not disclose the syndrome in a required waiver and it was common knowledge that Sparks had recently completed the Long Beach Marathon.

After his stint at KROQ, Sparks went to KSKI-FM in Twin Falls, Idaho, where he hosted an alternative adult music show for Chaparral Broadcasting. He retuned to Southern California in 2007 to complete his masters' degree in broadcast communication, graduating in May 2009.
