"The City's Skate Park is very popular and can get very crowded," said Councilmember Frank Ferry. "The City's new Skateboard I class offers the chance for beginning skaters to hone their skills at the Skate Park in a pressure-free environment."

The Recreation Division will be offering the classes to help beginner skaters learn the ropes. The classes are offered in two age groups (7-12 and 13-17) and are hosted on Saturdays from 8:00-9:00 a.m., from April 3 - 24 and May 5 - 22.

Skateboard I teaches a host of skate tips and tricks, including pushing, riding, tack turns, switch turns, safe approaches to ramps and proper foot placement (regular or goofy). The class also includes an introduction to ollies, drop-ins and a supervised huck jam similar to Tony Hawk's Boom Boom HuckJam.

The class is $100 ($125 for non-residents) for 5 to 8 sessions. In order to participate, class attendees are required to bring along a skateboard and the Skate Park's required safety equipment: helmet, elbow and knee pads.

The City's Skate Park is located at 20840 Centre Pointe Parkway. For more information on how to register visit www.scskatepark.com.
