The change is practiced through most of the United States, and it provides more sunshine in the evening, often lasting through the 6 o'clock hour and beyond.
More daylight generally means a slightly easier commute for evening travelers, extended golf hours, and increased energy savings.
While the official change occurs at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, common practice is to set clocks ahead just before bedtime Saturday.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department also recommends replacing batteries in all smoke detectors during Daylight Savings time.
