Golden Valley Pitcher Sets School Record With 17 Strikeouts Print E-mail

sportsgoldenvalleyGolden Valley's Scott Barlow turned in one of the best pitching performances in school history in his team's 8-3 win over Lancaster in the Southern California Invitational.

Barlow struck out a school record 17 batters in his complete game win over Lancaster. He walked two and gave up two earned runs.

Kamran Young was 2-for-3 and hit a two-run home run for Golden Valley. Teammate Billy Fredrick went 4-for-4 with a double and scored a run.

The Saugus baseball team lost, 1-0, to Newbury Park in the Southern California Invitational. Cameron Carillo took a perfect game into the sixth inning for Saugus. He finished with five strikeouts. Newbury Park scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In high school softball, Canyon got off to a bit of a rocky start, losing, 6-0, to Oxnard. Jenny Wunderlich had two hits and pitcher Halyley Bottino struck out five in the complete game for Canyon. But Canyon made four errors which led to three unearned runs.

The Valencia boys volleyball team beat Santa Barbara in impressive fashion, a three-game sweep. Nick Ferry led Valencia with 11 kills. Eric Ensing chipped in with nine kills and Steven Crane had 30 assists.

In high school swimming, La Canada won the boys and girls sides of a dual meet against Valencia. The Valencia boys lost 89-81 and the Valencia girls lost 99-71.

In high school tennis, the Canyon boys beat Lancaster, 12-6. The Valencia boys knocked off Thousand Oaks, 14-4.

In college baseball, The Master's College split a doubleheader against Fresno Pacific, the No. 9 ranked team in the NAIA. The Master's College lost the first game, 9-4, but won the second game, 7-4.

Ben Ives was 3-for-4 and scored a run in the first game for The Master's College. Joe Zeller pitched seven effective innings, striking out 10, and drove in the game-winning run for The Master's College in the second game.

The Clippers saw their season continue to spiral out of control with a 108-97 loss to the Miami Heat. Dwyane Wade scored 27 points and Jermaine O'Neal added 19 as the Heat made their case as a playoff contender.

The Clippers got 31 points from Rasual Butler and 16 from Chris Kaman as the team took step closer to yet another lottery draft.

In hockey, the Kings got a goal and assist from Anze Kopitar, but lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-2, in overtime.
Patrick Sharp scored the game-winner for the Blackhawks. Dustin Brown notched his 16th goal of the season for the Kings in the second period.
Kopitar's goal, his 31st of the season, gave the Kings a 2-1 lead in the second period.

In college basketball, Cal State Northridge lost to Fullerton State, 84-76, in the first round of the Big West men's basketball tournament. Mark Hill scored 15 points for CSUN.
