Local Non-Profits Prepare To Benefit From City Grants Print E-mail

khts_citymatters_scvlogoRecommendations on how to split up $100,000 donation go before Council this week.

The Santa Clarita City Council will vote on how to distribute $100,000 in community service grants to local non-profits. The City gives out money each year to organizations that have a local impact in the community.

A list of recommended non-profits and donation amounts was crafted by the Community Services Grant Committee, and the City Council will get the chance to offer final approval Tuesday night.

The recommended organizations and amounts include:

Santa Clarita Autism Asperger Network
$6,900.00 for Project Lifesaver

Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc.
$7,360.00 for finishing touches on the Newhall Health Center

Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley
$7,500.00 for facility and equipment upgrade projects.

Los Angeles Retarded Citizens Foundation (LARC)
$7,500.00 for residential housing renovations.

Single Mothers Outreach
$7,340.00 for Clothes Closet Enhancement project

LETMESAIL, Inc.
$7,500.00 for LETMESAIL day program


SCV Youth Project
$7,250 for "Game of Life" educational outreach pilot program

Partners in Care Foundation
$5,000 for adult day health care.

Foundation for Children's Dental Health
$7,050.00 for "Smile Suite" interactive oral health educational room and program.

Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley
$4,845.00 for floor hockey program.

Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry
$7,495.00 for capital expenditures and special supplies.

Carousel Ranch
$7,500.00 for the purchase of a 3-horse, slant-load warmblood-sized trailer.

Help the Children
$7,500.00 for food pick up and distribution vehicle.

Heads Up, Inc. - Therapy With Horses
$7,500.00 for equipment storage, stall and arena re-grading.

Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA
$1,500.00 for an after school enrichment program.

The donations total $99,740. If approved by Council, City staff would begin distributing the money soon.
