Canyon Boys Soccer Team Undefeated In Foothill League Print E-mail

sportscanyonThe Canyon boys soccer team is putting together a perfect Foothill League season. Mohammed Roknipour scored the lone goal in Canyon's 1-0 win over Saugus.

Canyon ran its league record to an undefeated 8-0.

 

The Valencia boys beat Golden Valley, 3-1, behind goals from Ben Beilin, Javier Elias and Matt Peters. Valencia is a game behind Canyon at 7-1 in the Foothill League standings. Canyon and Valencia meet on Tuesday in a crucial league game.

Hart and West Ranch played to a scoreless draw.

On the girls side, the Saugus girls got two goals from Jamie Molacek in a 3-1 win over Canyon. Ysabel Padron also scored for Saugus. Devon Goff scored for Canyon late in the second half.

Hart beat West Ranch, 2-1. Kayla Kret and Katie Trevino scored for Hart.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls got shut out by Viewpoint, 2-0.

In high school basketball, the West Ranch girls beat Hart by 20, 63-43. Erin Ruiz scored 19 points and Kaylyn Tarver added 13 for West Ranch.

The Canyon girls kept pace with West Ranch in the Foothill League standings with a 65-39 win over Saugus. Canyon's Brooke LeMar scored a team-high 16 points. Canyon and West Ranch are tied for first place in the Foothill League with 7-1 records.

The Valencia boys beat Golden Valley, 65-59. Lonnie Jackson scored 13 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter. Trevor Wiseman scored a team-high 20 points for Golden Valley.

Canyon beat Saugus, 54-52, behind 15 points from Wesley Bartole. Canyon, Valencia and Golden Valley are tied with 6-2 league records with two games left to play.

West Ranch beat Hart, 72-64. Anthony Yumul scored 22 points to lead West Ranch over winless Hart.

The New Orleans Saints scored 25 points in the second half and beat the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl, 31-17. Saints quarterback Drew Brees was named the most valuable player of the game, throwing for two touchdowns and 288 yards. New Orleans' Tracy Porter iced the game with a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Los Angeles Kings will look to set a franchise record winning streak against the Anaheim Ducks tonight. The Kings have won nine straight games, including a 6-4 win over the Ducks on Thursday and a thrilling, come-from-behind, 4-3, win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. The Kings can make it 10 in a row against the Ducks. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
