Hometown Sports Report 1-30-08

Week four of Foothill League boy’s basketball started in the most dramatic of ways last night.  In a game heard live on KHTS, Hart erased a 10-point halftime deficit, only to lose to Valencia 62-60 on Terrez Scott’s jumper with five seconds remaining.  Not to be outdone, Mario Wright lived up to his nickname, “Super Mario,” for the Saugus Centurions.  Wright banked in a 3-point heave from the half-court line at the buzzer to defeat a West Ranch team that lead for most of the game, 54-51.  Canyon kept Golden Valley winless in league play with a 72-66 victory.  In girl’s action, Hart split the season series with Valencia, winning 51-35.  Saugus took sole possession of second place with a 61-37 win over West Ranch.

In boy’s soccer action, Saugus took the league lead with a 1-0 win over Canyon.  Golden Valley beat West Ranch, 5-2.  Saugus also beat Canyon 3-1 in girl’s action.

Hart Defensive Coordinator Rick Harrington is leaving after 30 years to assume the same position at Alemany, where his brother Dean is the Head Coach.

The Los Angeles Kings lost at Philadelphia, 3-2 in overtime.  The Kings take on the New York Islanders on Thursday; live on KHTS at 3:30pm.
