Hometown Sports Report 02-04-08

The home stretch has arrived for both Foothill League basketball and soccer.  Friday night saw the biggest surprise of the year in boy’s basketball to date, when West Ranch knocked off the first-place Valencia Vikings, 57-55.  Saugus defeated Golden Valley, 64-45, moving the Centurions into a first-place tie with the Vikings heading into the last week of league play.  Canyon completed the season-sweep of Hart, 70-56, to keep the Cowboys league title hopes alive.  In girl’s action, Hart is one step closer to winning league again, following a 46-45 win over Canyon.  Saugus defeated Golden Valley, 56-44, and Valencia also beat West Ranch, 70-57.

In boy’s soccer action, the league remains jumbled with Canyon and Saugus still tied for first.  Canyon beat West Ranch, 2-0, while Saugus knocked off Valencia, 3-0.  Golden Valley stunned Hart, 3-2.  In girl’s action, West Ranch and Canyon tied 1-1.  Hart beat Golden Valley, 3-0.

The Los Angeles Lakers had their best weekend since winning the 2002 NBA Championship.  The Lakers completed a blockbuster trade, sending Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and two first-round draft picks to Memphis for All-Star power forward Pau Gasol.  The Lakers then dominated Toronto and Washington on Friday and Sunday.

The Los Angeles Kings lost to New Jersey, 6-3 on Saturday.  The Kings travel back to New York for the Rangers, live tomorrow on KHTS at 3:30pm.
