    Hometown Recipes: Easy Strawberry Syrup

    By Erin Walgamuth

Happy 4th of July all! We are having friends and family to our house for a poolside BBQ this year. I am going to serve ice cream with an assortment of toppings for dessert. One of my family’s favorite ice cream topping is strawberry syrup made from fresh strawberries. I hope you enjoy this easy to make syrup too!

Hometown Recipes: Chipotle Lime Secret Sauce

    By Erin Walgamuth

This sauce is really not a secret at all, but when my children were little, any mayonnaise-based sauce for burgers or anything else was referred to as “secret sauce.” It’s been a long time, but I believe they got the idea from a food commercial!  This very simple recipe is especially good with sweet potato fries. We put it on burgers as well, but with a bit of an adjustment to the ingredient amounts.

    Hometown Recipes: Summer Fruit Smoothie

    By Erin Walgamuth

Hello friends, well, this week I don’t have much to give you in terms of a recipe. I am working all week in Los Angeles and the long hours, not to mention the long ride home, do not allow time for home cooked meals to say the least! My husband made Tuna Casserole for dinner for our girls and himself…hey, it’s a classic. I just had a bowl of corn flakes…yum! Now it’s time for me to go to bed as my alarm clock is set for 5am.

Hometown Recipes: Papaya Quesadilla With Queso Fresco

    By Erin Walgamuth

I was out running errands a few days ago and went into Sabor Latino for some supplies. My daughter had to be at work in a few hours and I knew she would want to eat something before she left the house. Hmmm, what to make? They had some ripe papayas in the produce section and I decided to make quesadillas for her, and use the left-overs for dinner….good plan!

    Hometown Recipes: Mom’s Potato Salad

    By Erin Walgamuth

Summer meals will always remind me of my parents. I was raised here in Southern California and we ate outside almost every evening during warm weather. My mom would serve homemade sun tea flavored with lemon from our tree. My dad would be stationed at the grill as my sister and I set the wooden table with our favorite daisy patterned places mats and California Mission themed ice tea glasses…oh so stylish in the 70’s.

    Hometown Recipes: Mango Relish

    By Erin Walgamuth

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

There were eleven of us at our house. We sat out by the pool, visited, laughed, were sprayed with water from strategically placed cannon balls and barbequed some great food.

I made a mango relish to go with the grilled chicken. Everyone enjoyed it, so I thought you might too.

Hometown Recipes: Slow Roasted Amoroso Tomatoes

    By Erin Walgamuth

You can find these lovely little tomatoes in almost any market. They are larger than a cherry tomato, but smaller than a Roma tomato. Amoroso tomatoes are juicy and sweet. Their color will be dark red and they will be attached to the vine. Typically you will find them in a 16oz plastic container which will give you about fourteen tomatoes.

Hometown Recipes: Fried Plantains With Garlic Cilantro Dipping Sauce

    By Erin Walgamuth

Cinco de Mayo holds a special place in my heart as it is the day our son was born. So, every year on his birthday, we make foods with a Latin flavor to celebrate his birth as well as the holiday. We typically start our celebration with one of our family’s favorite appetizers; fried plantains with garlic cilantro dipping sauce. This delicious starter pairs quite well with a margarita…or two.
