    Hometown Recipes: Lemon Bars

    By Erin Walgamuth

The son of a dear friend of ours left for Boot Camp a few weeks ago. We were to be at their home for a going-away party/bbq and when I asked Josh what he would like me to make he said “Lemon bars!”

Who doesn’t like corn on the cob? My family and I eat corn on the cob two to three times a week this time of year. It’s inexpensive and goes with just about anything off the grill. I don’t know about you, but I am all for not using my oven from now until September.

Around this time of year the tomato plants in my vegetable garden are heavy with ripened fruit. My family and I look forward to the addition of these luscious gems to our weekly meals.

One of our favorites is a simple pasta sauce that is packed with flavor and fills the kitchen with a wonderful aroma.

    Hometown Recipes: Plum Frangipane Tart

    By Erin Walgamuth

Summer is officially here and so are a variety of luscious fruits. I have been waiting until ripe plums are plentiful to share this recipe with you. Don’t be intimidated by the name, Frangipane just means an almond flavored filling.

I make this tart every summer and there isn’t a crumb left when all is said and done. Use black plums if you can find them as they have a small pit and are the sweetest of all plums in my opinion.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

We are hosting a BBQ at our house on Sunday so I have been working on an Asian style marinade for the occasion. We will be grilling chicken but I’d like to try this marinade with skirt steak next time. I am serving the Coconut Rice from last week’s Recipe of the Week as a side dish.

I am writing to you from my sister-in-laws house in Northern California. My daughter and I are on a 1300 mile road trip. We left on Thursday, June 3rd right after school. My daughter got in the car and let out a sigh of relief followed by a huge smile.

“I am now officially a senior mom, its sooo weird,” she said as I pulled the car out into the last-day-of-school traffic.

    Hometown Recipes: Mango Relish

    By Erin Walgamuth

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

There were eleven of us at our house. We sat out by the pool, visited, laughed, were sprayed with water from strategically placed cannon balls and barbequed some great food.

I made a mango relish to go with the grilled chicken. Everyone enjoyed it, so I thought you might too.

erinwalkamuth_picI have so many “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s”, in my life right now. I can’t believe my daughter only has five school days left! I can’t believe my daughter is going to have her driver’s license next month…I sincerely don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that one.
