High Winds Expected Through Thursday
High winds dangerous, but not enough for red flag warnings.
Santa Ana winds are expected to increase through the afternoon, peaking overnight into Thursday morning, weakening Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Potentially damaging peak wind gusts near 80 MPH are likely over valley and coastal areas with gusts up to 60 MPH are expected below passes and canyons.
Residents are advised to bring in trash cans or other items that could become airborne or cause damage if carried on the winds.
Fire officials said that while the winds are excessive, they are not issuing a red flag warning of increased fire danger. According to Inspector Sam Padilla of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a red flag warning requires a combination of dangerous levels of wind, humidity and the burn index to exist.
