Golden Valley, Saugus Basketball Teams Look To Maintain Leads

Grizzlies, Centurions have one-game leads in Foothill League.

It should be an exciting weekend of high school basketball with a pair of surprising teams atop the Foothill League standings.



Golden Valley
boys basketball team is in a tight race for the lead in the Foothill League. The Grizzlies have a one-game edge over red-hot Hart High. Golden Valley
will host Saugus
and Hart is at home against Canyon on Saturday night. West Ranch is at Valencia

With three games left in the Foothill League season, it looks like

Golden Valley
, Hart and West Ranch will earn automatic playoff berths. The top three teams in the league will advance to postseason. Golden Valley
leads the Foothill League with a 6-1 record. Hart, which beat Golden Valley
last week, is second at 5-2 and West Ranch is 4-3 in league.


On the girls side,

has a one-game lead over West Ranch and Valencia
in the Foothill League standings. Saugus
plays at Golden Valley
while West Ranch visits Valencia
on Saturday night. Canyon is at Hart.


(6-1 in league), West Ranch (5-2 in league) and Valencia
(5-2 in league) are in position to make the playoffs.


The Foothill League regular season ends Feb. 13.


In soccer, the Canyon boys team has a commanding lead in the Foothill League standings. With a 5-1-1 record in league, Canyon can clinch a playoff spot as soon as Tuesday.

is second with a 3-2-2 record in league. Canyon plays at Hart and Golden Valley

on Saturday. West Ranch is at Valencia

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team beat Viewpoint, 3-0, on Thursday. 


In college baseball, the second day of the Western State Conference tournament at College of the Canyons was rained out Thursday. Barring any further rain delays, the tournament is scheduled to resume today with College of the Canyons facing L.A.Harbor at The Cougars played to an 8-8 tie against El Camino College on Wednesday, the first day of the tournament.
