Gibbon Preserve Fundraiser Set Saturday

Endangered apes need a new home away from development.

If you feeling like monkeying around April 12, a vegan breakfast awaits at the Gibbon Conservation Center in Saugus. From 8:30 a.m. to noon, visitors will be given an amazing opportunity to view this endangered species of apes up close and hear their songs.

The event is a fundraiser to help the compound relocate away from encroaching development. Along with breakfast, participants will enjoy a guided tour featuring the largest group of gibbons (small apes) in the Western hemisphere (some with infants), a question and answer session with founder Ian Mootnick and the opportunity to bid on silent auction items.

The Gibbon Conservation Center is located off Bouquet Canyon Road at 19100 Esquerra Road. Admission for guests age 18 and up is $30 per person, guests between the ages of  13-17 are $15, ages 3 -12 are $10 and those under 3 years old com in for free. The Gibbon Center can accept only cash and checks (no ATM or credit cards) at the door.

For more info, email: gibboncenter@earthlink.netor call (661) 296-2737. Directions at www.gibboncenter.org. (Click on “Tours”.) All proceeds benefit the gibbons.
