Foothill League Boys Basketball Teams Advance To Quarterfinals

Golden Valley, Hart, West Ranch and Valencia stay alive in playoffs.

The four remaining boys basketball teams from the Foothill League advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section playoffs over the weekend.

Golden Valley, the Foothill League champions, downed Brea Olinda, 82-59, in the Division III-A playoffs. Hart got 22 points from Parker Dominguez in a 72-56 win over Granite Hills in III-AA playoffs. West Ranch was a 77-56 winner over Valencia of Placentia in Division II-AA. Sophomore Jake Kelfer hit two free throws with two seconds left in the game to lift Valencia, 39-38, over Katella in the Division II-AA playoffs.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team lost to Capistrano Valley Christian, 51-36, in the Division VI-AA playoffs.

It wasn’t such a good weekend for the girls basketball teams from the Foothill League. West Ranch and Saugus lost their second round playoff games, leaving Valencia as the lone Foothill League representative in postseason. Valencia got 18 points from Starla Wright in a 58-47 win over Valencia of Placentia in the Division II-AA playoffs. West Ranch lost to Mira Costa, 53-38, in Division II-AA, and Saugus lost to Newbury Park, 69-53, in Division II-A.

In boys soccer, Canyon and Saugus advanced and West Ranch was eliminated in the Division III playoffs. Jordan Markovich scored the lone goal for Canyon in a 1-0 win over Lynwood. Manny Padron scored in overtime to give Saugus a 2-1 win over Paramount. West Ranch lost to Montclair, 1-0.

The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team finished undefeated in Western State Conference play with a 103-41 win over Glendale College.

The College of the Canyons men’s team also finished on a winning note, 107-99 in overtime against Glendale College.
