Foothill League Baseball Season Begins Today

Hart, the reigning champs, plays West Ranch.

The Foothill League baseball season begins today with three games in the Santa Clarita Valley. West Ranch hosts Hart, the reigning Foothill League champs. Valencia is at Saugus and Canyon travels to Golden Valley. All games start at 3:15.

In high school softball, Valencia’s Maddi Shipman was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs in a 3-1 win over El Dorado on Thursday.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons pounded Pierce College, 16-4. Matt Warr drove in five runs and was 3-for-6 with three doubles.
The Master’s College got seven scoreless innings from Tyler Bersano in a 7-3 win over Fresno Pacific.
In college softball, the College of the Canyons split a doubleheader with Glendale College, winning the first game 7-0, and losing the nightcap, 4-3.

In boys golf, West Ranch beat Saugus, 402-447, and Golden Valley lost to L.A. Baptist, 208-240.

It was a record-setting day for the West Ranch boys and girls track and field teams. On the boys side, the 800-meter relay team set a school record in a meet against Alemany. On the girls side, school records were set in six events, including the 100- and 3,200-meter races against Alemany. The West Ranch boys and girls teams were winners in both meets.
