First-Ever Carpool Lane On I-5 Dedicated
Move will connect 118 - 14 to smooth transitions and prevent backups.
The first carpool lane on interstate 5 in Los Angeles County will be celebrated Friday afternoon by the people who joined forces and made it possible.
The 6.2 mile stretch begins at the 118 or Simi Valley Freeway and links to the 14 or Antelope Valley Freeway with a direct high occupancy vehicle connector at the I-5-14 interchange.
According to Caltrans officials, the project will improve mobility, help alleviate congestion, encourage carpooling and improve air quality. Soundwalls have been constructed at various locations along the project area to protect the residents living along the I-5 corridor.
