Achieving High Energy Health, By Doctor Polucki

Does a salted caramel iced coffee sound good to you right now? How about a soda or an energy drink to get through the rest of the day? Craving salt, sweets and relying on stimulants to get through the day or night are socially reinforced by product marketing but these are early warning signs of a dangerous chemical imbalance and while a shot of sugar, caffeine or something stronger may perk you up, these quick fixes are actually making things much worse.

The way you use food as fuel; carbohydrate, protein or fat, involves every cell, tissue, organ and system in your body. Consistently giving your body the right fuel mix is one of the most important things you can learn to feel better, look younger, live longer and spend less on medical expenses. Here are a few additional tips on achieving high energy health.

You just need to pay attention:

1) When was the last time you woke up feeling great?

Cortisol is produced in adrenal glands and cortisol strongly influences most of the other hormones like thyroid, insulin, estrogen and testosterone. Cortisol is an anti-inflammatory and makes you feel good. Cortisol reserves normally replenish while you are sleeping so if you don’t wake up feeling great, it is a warning sign that adrenal fatigue is  in progress and your ability to handle any new stress is diminishing.

One thing you can do now:

Get to sleep by 10:00 pm. Most of the adrenal repair takes place between 10:00pm and 2:00am. And every hour of sleep before midnight is worth two after.

2) How do you feel an hour after you eat? Are you still hungry, fuzzy brained, irritable or fatigued?

Eating the wrong foods for your unique metabolism is like putting the wrong fuel in your car you may be able to get by, but you are ruining real time performance and setting the metabolic pathways for a more serious metabolic problem.

One thing you can do now:

E-mail me at drpfunmed@gmail.com and I will send you a free metabolic self-survey that you can easily track how your food choices are affecting you.

3) Are you exhausted for the rest of the day after a workout?

With the trend towards more and more extreme workouts to produce amazing fast results, many people are getting hurt both mechanically and metabolically. And while many gyms increase their attendance with competitions, the science of getting healthier is slow and constant improvement instead of the marketing 3 month total transformations. While exercise is a critical key in avoiding metabolic problems like adrenal fatigue, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, cancer, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, over doing exercise can lead to the hormonal imbalances that cause them.

One thing you can do now:

Limit your workouts to 25 minutes max. Take your temperature before you start and as soon as you are done. If your core temperature has gone down, you are working too hard and causing more damage than good, draining cortisol and shutting off thyroid. There is an easier, safer way to get to your fitness goal, it just may take more than 3 months for you to get there.

4) Are you accumulating belly fat no matter what diet or exercise you do?

Belly fat, at any body weight is a sign that metabolic issues are starting to cause damage in vital organs. The amount of fat on your belly is proportional to amount of fat in your liver, heart and the blood vessels in your brain.

One thing you can do now:

Take your resting heart rate right before you eat a meal, take your resting pulse again 20, 40 and 60 minutes later. If your resting heart rate increases, it’s time to make some new food choices because the food you just had is causing metabolic damage. And again, e-mail me at drpfunmed@gmail.com and I will send you a free metabolic self-survey that you can easily track how your food choices are affecting you.
