Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's COBRA Team are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Wednesday night on Race Street in Newhall.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting and found a Newhall resident had been shot.

A containment of the area was established by the arriving deputies, COBRA Team members, Community Interaction Team (CIT) members and the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) North County Crime Impact team.

The injured man was found to have suffered gun shot wounds to the hand and leg, but they were reportedly not life threatening.

Despite the containment, deputies were not able to make any official arrests in the case, however they did make a separate arrest of a 21 year old man for allegedly being in possession of methamphetamine and a dagger.

"The detectives do believe this shooting is gang related," said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Department.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident has been asked to immediately contact Detective Mike McPheeters of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's COBRA Team at (661) 799-5176.
