Craig Stadler's Team Wins Pro-Am At Valencia Country Club
AT&T Champions Classic begins today.
Champions Tour pro golfer Craig Stadler and his team won the pro-am at Valencia Country Club on Thursday, shooting a 17-under par 55.
The first round of the AT&T Champions Classic begins today at 10 at Valencia Country Club. Denis Watson, who won last year’s tournament, tees off at 11:07 this morning. He will go out with Hale Irwin and Larry Nelson.
Moving from the fairways to the diamonds, the Hart High baseball team looked impressive against the reigning CIF Division I champions Thursday. Hart’s Josh Wagner threw a four-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Simi Valley.
West Ranch beat Alemany 8-6 in the Easton Tournament and will play Crespi on Saturday in the championship game at Birmingham High School.
The Canyon baseball team lost to Lancaster High 15-2.
In softball, Valencia shut out San Juan Hills, 10-0, in the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Arizona. Closer to home, the Hart softball team swept a doubleheader against Moorpark. Hart won the first game 1-0 and then erupted 17-2 in the nightcap.
West Ranch beat L.A. Baptist, 3-2, and Canyon blanked Verdugo Hills, 11-0.
Hart faces Alemany in the Hart Classic Softball Tournament on Saturday morning at 11 in Central Park. West Ranch plays Agoura, Canyon faces Highland and Golden Valley takes on Arleta in the tournament.
In high school track and field, Canyon’s Taylor Thomas led the girls team by winning four events in a 99-37 win over Burroughs of Burbank. She won the 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and was on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. The boys team lost to Burroughs for the first time in 21 years, 77-59. Canyon’s Dylan Kawaa won the shot put and Joe Elick won the discus. Kawaa was second in the discus and Elick was second in the shot put.
Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley makes his return to the NASCAR West Series this weekend. The season opens Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway in Texas.
