Santa Clarita Child Annoyance Charge Due Back Later This Month

A Valencia man who was ordered to stand trial on child annoyances charges is due back in court later this month, according to an official with the District Attorney’s Office.

Yale Yurman, 70, of Valencia, is being charged with annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18 with a prior conviction.

He’s expected back in court Nov. 22 for a pretrial hearing, at which point a schedule for trial could be established, or he could try to make a plea deal with the District Attorney’s Office.

At a preliminary hearing in September, deputy district attorney Laura Knight-Jackson presented the case against Yurman.

He pleaded not guilty at his formal arraignment Oct. 11.

Yurman was arrested in July after Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies received complaints that Yurman allegedly was following children and filming them, said Sheriff’s Station Deputy Josh Dubin, at the time of the arrest.

“(Deputies) received numerous reports regarding this individual,” Dubin said. “Our detectives immediately began an investigation and ultimately served a search warrant on the suspect’s residence.”

There was evidence at Yurman’s house on the 23700 block of Hickory Court in Valencia, which led to his arrest, Dubin said.

Sheriff’s Station detectives were alerted to Yurman’s activities by Target loss-prevention officers, who received a report from customers and contacted deputies with their information.

Detectives were able to identify four locations where the suspect would follow the girls.

Three of the locations were in the Santa Clarita Valley.

These locations were identified as Target, Walmart and the Real Life Church in Valencia.

Another location was the Santa Monica pier, according to a Sheriff’s Station news release.

Yurman is being held on $1 million bail.

Yurman has four offenses listed on the Megan’s Law website, including a child annoyance charge. The other counts are for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.

California’s Megan’s Law provides the public with certain information on the whereabouts of sex offenders so that members of our local communities may protect themselves and their children.
