The City of Santa Clarita
is offering free services to assist residents with spring cleaning. Hazardous waste, electronic waste and bulk item collections
are just a few services the City will offer both in the coming months and
throughout the year.

All residents can drop off paint and other hazardous waste
items for free at the L.A. County’s HHW Collection Event at College of the
Canyons on Saturday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can visit http://dpq.lacounty.gov/epd/hhw/index.cfm
for a list of accepted materials and more.

Community members unable to attend the HHW Collection Event
can utilize the City’s own HHW Collection Program. The free door-to-door service
collects limited amounts of antifreeze, batteries, motor oil, filters and oil
or latex paint for City residents. Some E-waste items may also be collected and
one HHW pickup is available per household per year. Residents interested in
this free City service can contact Curbside, Inc. at (800) 449-7587.

Residents looking for a place to safely destroy E-waste,
medication and confidential documents can attend the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s SAFE
& SECURE event on Saturday, April 25 at College of the Canyons from to

At the event, residents can drop off up to five boxes of
personal papers, including credit cards, computer disks and empty binders to be
shredded for free. The SAFE & SECURE event will also accept prescription,
over-the-counter and veterinary medications from community members for free.

Another spring cleaning scheduled for Saturday, April 25 is L.A.
County
’s free Waste Tire Collection
Event, held at the County facility at

17931 Sierra
Highway
. At the event, residents can drop off
tires to be recycled free of charge and participants will receive a 15 percent
discount coupon for their next Bridgestone or Firestone tire purchase. For more
information on this event, please visit http://dpw.lacounty.gov/epd/TireRecycling/collection.cfm.

In addition to the collection events held on April 4 and 25,
the City also offers collection services to assist residents with waste pickup
throughout the year. The City’s Bulky Items and E-Waste Pickup service entitles
community members who have trash service to four bulky item pickups per year,
with up to three items per pickup, per year.

With this service, the City will remove chairs, sofas,
mattresses, washers, dryers, small household appliances and more for free.
Community members interested in receiving this service can contact Blue
Barrel/Waste Management at (661) 259-2398 to schedule a free pickup.

Community members considering putting in new plants this
spring can visit local nurseries and Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Conservatory

tolerant, water efficient plants and irrigation methods. Residents can also
find more tips on how to conserve water at home, and receive rebates, at
Newhall County Water District (www.ncwd.org/residential.asp),
