Zonta To Honor Nominees For Community Service Awards
Volunteers whose community service has benefited women locally and across the nation will be honored at the annual Status of Women Celebration hosted by Zonta Club of the SCV. This year’s brunch will be held Saturday, March 31, at the Valencia Country Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Non-profit organizations across the Santa Clarita Valley have each selected one nominee, who will be the guest of Zonta at the celebration. From those nominees, Zonta will select one honoree to receive the Carmen Sarro Award for improving the status of women through community service.
Carmen Sarro was a charter member of the local Zonta Club whose dedication to community service was legendary throughout her lifetime.
During the brunch, each honoree will be called to the podium to give a brief description of the nominating organization and its community service projects. The annual event draws hundreds of guests each year and unites a number of local organizations whose main purpose is serving women on both a local and international level.
Members of organizations which have nominated an honoree are encouraged to attend the brunch to support their nominee. Cost is $30, and advance reservations are a “must,” since this popular event often sells out before the brunch date. This year’s theme is “Shining Stars of Santa Clarita.”
“This is a great networking event and a good way to honor all that have helped the organizations in SCV,” said Zonta past president Judy Penman, who co-chairs this year’s event with Karen Maleck-Whiteley. Further information or reservations can be obtained by contacting Maleck-Whiteley at 252-0650.
