SCV Outdoor Report
BUT how many of us know that our local Mediterranean ecosystem is rarer than the tropical rainforest? How many of us know that California condors fly over the Santa Clarita Valley? How many of us have seen a Chocolate Lily or the tracks of a bobcat, both of which can be found less than 5 miles away from downtown Newhall? My goal is to help people truly see and appreciate what treasures are in their own backyards. My hope is that when people understand what they have they will want to preserve and protect it.
I am a volunteer for the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority but I no longer work for the agency. I also volunteer as a member of the Financial Accountability and Audit Panel (FAAP) for the City of Santa Clarita’s Open Space Preservation District. (A disclaimer: any comments I make about open space in Santa Clarita are made as a private citizen, not as a member of the FAAP.) I am a volunteer with LA County Chaplain’s Eagles and teach at two local youth probation camps. I attend Fuller Theological Seminary and am a candidate for ordination as Deacon in the United Methodist Church.
Our family came to the Santa Clarita Valley in 2001 from Palo Alto, California, where my husband and I worked in the high tech industry. Hugh and I have been married for 27 years and we have one daughter, Ellie, who now lives on the east coast. I earned my BA in Biology from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota and an MS in Human Nutrition with a minor in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota.
Thanks for listening. I encourage you to go outside and play.

The MRCA is a Joint-Powers Agency created by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District and the Conejo Recreation and Park District.
