Transit Gets More Predictable
City of Santa Clarita Transit Buses Arriving On-Time.
On-time performance is measured by whether or not a bus arrives at a bus stop within five minutes of the time published in the schedule. After reviewing the system, the City found that the old schedules did not match the actual running time of buses on the routes.
The transit schedule was adjusted to account for changing traffic patterns and the increase in transit users in the City. Buses on routes such as Routes 1/2 and Routes 3/7 are arriving on-time above the system average.
“The schedule changes immediately improved our on-time performance,” said Transit Manager Jeff O’Keefe. “Passengers are telling us how happy they are that the new schedule matches the actual bus arrival times.”
Still slightly below the City’s goal of 95% on-time performance, Route 5/6 has shown a vast improvement in on-time performance since the new schedule changes were put in place. The hours of 3:00pm to 5:00pm most effect route 5/6 due to more frequent stops being made by students after-school.
Transit plans to continue making minor schedule modifications to Route 5/6 to ensure that the route’s on-time performance is exceeding the City’s goal. The need for additional vehicles is also being evaluated.
“Riders depend on a reliable, convenient and effective transit service,” added O’Keefe. “We will continue to monitor on-time performance to ensure that transit is best serving the needs of the community.”
