Tolls in the Plans for SCV Roads?
A Michigan congressman on a powerful transportation subcommittee suggested Thursday that Santa Clarita officials consider tolls as a way to help fund roads in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“To get my attention,” Republican Rep. Joe Knollenberg said at a transportation summit at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, “if you are all working together it makes our job a whole lot easier. Judging by what I’ve heard, you are moving in the right direction.”
“One of the questions raised is: Are you considering toll roads?” said Knollenberg, chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development.
The transit powwow focused on two local projects: the cross-valley connector and a carpool lane for Interstate 5. The cross-valley connector would link Highway 14 at Golden Valley Road with Interstate 5 at Highway 126. But according to Santa Clarita city officials, toll roads are not an option.
