Three Nominees Vie For Spot On Parks Panel
Parks and Recreation Panel member Karin Nelson resigns, prompting an election.
This month, Councilman Tim Ben Boydston will pick one nominee for the seat on the Parks and Recreation Panel.
Karin Nelson, originally chosen by then-Councilman Cameron Smyth, recently resigned from the panel for health reasons, and then moved out of town.
Tim Ben Boydston, who replaced Smyth after he was elected to state assembly, will now chose his candidate, which will be subject to council approval.
The nominees are: Duane Harte, a former Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Gerald Dry, a retired telephone technician, and Anthony G. Gragas, a Hart High graduate and father of two.
Between 1999-2002, Harte served on the commission, and now is a Newhall Redevelopment Committee member. In one letter of recommendation, Duane was described as a man of “high level leadership, commitment, while chairing committees and participating in community activities”.
Gerald Dry is currently an active member in the Bridgeport Community Association, and is described as a team player. Bridgeport Community Association President Steve Terwilliger said that Dry was a humble and compassionate leader. “I have found Gerry to be a thoughtful, articulate team player, putting the group’s needs ahead of his own and he is willing to do whatever needs to be done.”
Anthony “Tony” G. Gragas is not only a father, but also a Valencia Homeowners Association Board member. In his recommendation letter, Mark G. Osowski said, “Tony is a loyal friend, and outstanding parent, and an unselfish volunteer in our community, donating his time to serve on our HOA Board of Directors and with other association functions.”
The newly elected member’s term will expire July 31st 2008.
Councilman Boydston will make his choice on August 28th.
