They Had No Alternative’
One or more sheriff’s deputies shot and wounded a suspected car thief in Canyon Country on Thursday after the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at them.
A female passenger ran from the car after it was stopped by the two-man patrol unit around 3 p.m. in the Boot Barn Plaza at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road.
Deputies taped off and surrounded the shopping center as they searched for the woman, described as a blonde, 33-year-old white or Latina, wearing a red top and blue jeans.
Deputies later widened their search for the fugitive as they hunted door-to-door in the Sierra Canyon Apartment complex adjacent to the shopping center and searched the Santa Clara riverbed and another small shopping center to the east of the crime scene.
At around 8 p.m., deputies continued their search around Canyon Country Park and the Metrolink tracks near the riverbed.
Two bloodhound search dogs joined the deputies in the search, but the woman was still at large at press time.
