Students Get Involved In Arbor Day, 2005

The City of Santa Clarita’s Urban Forestry Division began distributing Coloring and Essay contest flyers to local schools for the upcoming Arbor Day Celebration. This year marks the 16th consecutive year that the City of Santa Clarita has held an Arbor Day Event. The celebration will be held on March 19, 2005, at Bridgeport Park, located at 23520 Bridgeport Lane and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Coloring Contest is open to local students in the third and fourth grade. The grand prize winner will be notified by phone and announced at the Arbor Day Celebration on March 19. The winner will also receive a tree planting at their school including a presentation given to the student’s class by the Neighborhood Leaf-Out Coordinator.

“This is a chance for the children of Santa Clarita to have fun while learning about the importance of Arbor Day,” said Ryan Wasson, Neighborhood Leaf-Out coordinator.

Local seventh and eighth grade students will also have a chance to participate with the Essay Contest. Santa Clarita has five Jr. High Schools within Santa Clarita’s city limits. The winner of the essay contest will be awarded a $500 savings bond by the Mayor Cameron Smyth at the annual Arbor Day Celebration.
