Heavy rains in the Santa Clarita area forced local residents from their homes Sunday morning, and prompted the closure of several roads in the Santa Clarita area. For a complete update. click "read more".
Residents of the Polynesian Mobile Home Park on the Old Road have been asked to evacuate their residences, as the park has experienced heavy flooding from the heavy rain that continues to fall in Santa Clarita. The Red Cross has opened a temporary shelter on the campus of Hart High School in Newhall to assist the estimated 150 residents who have been evacuated.
The rain has also caused mudslides and landslides along several of our local surface streets. At this hour, the following road closures are in effect: Placerita Canyon Road between Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon Road, and Sand Canyon Road south of Placerita Canyon Road.
