This afternoon, roughly two hundred people showed up to the SCV Chamber of Commerce Quarterly luncheon.

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth made remarks about a variety of topics not the least of which healthcare. Smyth is preparing to head back to Sacramento for a special session on the topic. He believes that they will create a template for universal healthcare in the state that would be privately funded. He also anticipates that the issue will get turned over to the public as part of a general election to see is voters are willing to subsidize it through sales tax.

Other topics included his continuance in trying to keep California’s film industry healthy, and the expansion of the I-5 freeway in our area. He said that since we formed the Golden State Gateway Coalition, it has served greatly in helping us go after transportations funds.

And Smyth finished by sending a message to the Governor. He asked that Governor Schwarzenegger becomes more engaged with Republicans in the state Legislature.

Larry Mankin commented on Smyth's speech: "The more we hear and see of Cameron, the more excited we as a community are that he's representing our valley's best interest," he said.
