Slain Canyon Country Youth Remembered

UPDATE: An arrest has been made in this case

[view:node_ad=5] Former Canyon High School infielder Josh Pipho is being remembered as a dedicated friend who put his family first. The popular baseball player, who graduated in 2005, was killed Saturday morning in a bloody melee in Stevenson Ranch that left his friend, Chad White, hospitalized.

His mother told KHTS that she’s lost “the light of her life and her best friend,” adding that Josh had planned to go back to school and join his father in the audio/video engineering business.

Pipho’s family is learning a lot more about him, as a steady stream of friends have visited their Canyon Country home since Saturday. Their presence is a comfort to his parents, Cindy and Dennis, as well as brothers Ryan, Tye and Devyn. More than 100 friends showed up at Central Park Sunday night for a candlelight vigil.

“It was unbelievable,” Cindy said. “There was this sense of love, I didn’t realize he had so many friends and touched so many lives. I walked away from there with more peace than I’ve had since it happened.”

Josh’s dog, an enthusiastic Pomeranian named Chloe, greets each visitor hopefully, wagging his tail and looking optimistic that his master will be right behind them. Cindy said that’s one of the things that breaks her heart.

In the fight that took place in a condo complex parking lot, both Pipho and White were stabbed and run over with a car. Friends said that the pair were set up, called to the scene to help another friend who was allegedly in trouble.

Although homicide detectives continue their investigation, no arrests have been made.

A viewing has been scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Eternal Valley Memorial Park. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Village Church, 24802 Alderbrook Drive, Newhall. Burial will follow at Eternal Valley and there will be food and fellowship in the church hall following the burial.
