"Shootout" In City Hall
Battle for the “New West” set to involve words, not bullets
For the first time in more than 100 years, there will be a shootout in the SCV. But, this shootout has been modified, and is perhaps more civilized. Words will be flying like bullets, but only one team will walk away, and move onto the championship round.
Santa Clarita law firms, Poole & Shaffery, LLP and HackerBraly, LLP will face-off in a head-to-head debate competition for local bragging rights and for the right to compete against the Santa Clarita Valley Jaycees Debate Team in the championship round.
The SCV Jaycees are the current National Champions, and are set to compete in the World Debate Championship. Among the competitors, teams from Asia, Australia, Africa, and South America will participate in the event, which will take place in Antalya, Turkey this November.
Keeping peace in the “New West” will be Santa Clarita’s very own Mayor Marsha McLean. Judging the competition will be “Marshals” B.J. Atkins, Mayor Pro-tem Bob Kellar, and Bill Kennedy.
Want to witness the shootout yourself? Come find out who will walk away with the title and who will go home, on September 26th at 6:00 p.m. in the City of Santa Clarita’s Council Chambers.
The Jaycees are requesting a $10 donation per attendee. For more information on this event, or to R.S.V.P. please contact event chair Dawn Abasta at (661) 607-6886.
