Sheriff's Deputies Stop Newhall Jumper
Distraught Man Grabbed Before Jumping Off Bridge
An apparently distraught man who threatened to jump off a Newhall bridge
today was stopped by sheriff's deputies who grabbed hold of him, authorities said.
The incident occurred on the Wiley Canyon Bridge over San Fernando Road
about 1:20 a.m., said Lt. Larry Gump of the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department's Santa Clarita Station.
The man, whose name was withheld, was coaxed from the center of the
bridge to a side, where sheriff's deputies grabbed him and brought him
down, Gump said.
No one was hurt in the incident. The man was hospitalized for observation, he said.
