Boy responsible for fire that destroyed 21 homes
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s have released information that says that a juvenile boy started the Buckweed Fire in Agua Dulce last week. That fire, called the Buckweed Fire, raged through Agua Dulce and into Santa Clarita, destroying twenty-one homes and twenty-two outbuildings. The fire also damaged fifteen other homes and twenty-three outbuildings and thousands of homes were evacuated in Canyon Country and Saugus.
The boy is reportedly 10 years old, and therefore his name has not been released by the Sheriff's Department.
LA County Fire Department investigators and Sheriff’s Arson investigators reportedly singled out the boy the day after the fires had been set. At some point, he admitted to playing with matches and starting the fire at the corner of Sierra Highway and Agua Dulce Canyon Road.
In a call to the Sheriff’s department, they confirmed that the boy was released to his parents and the case has been turned over to the LA County District Attorney.
The Buckweed fire has been fully contained.
However, strong winds are predicted for this weekend. People of all ages are warned to be extra careful when dealing with fire during that time.
