Saturday's Bone Marrow Drive Waives Fees
Residents invited to join the Bone Marrow Registry.
This Saturday, Mothers Fighting For Others will be holding a Bone Marrow Drive in the Ralphs parking lot on McBean Parkway and Decoro.
The drive is in memory of Trevor Kott, a little boy who passed away from AML, a rare form of Leukemia.
Usually, a fee of $52 is charged to join the Bone Marrow Registry; however, as a part of this drive, that fee will be waived.
All are welcome, and patrons are encouraged to come in groups.
By joining the Registry, you can make yourself an option for those who wouldn’t otherwise have an option.
If your marrow can be used to help save someone’s life, the process could be substantially more tolerable than some myths describe.
All donors receive anesthetic when they donate marrow, and feel no pain. Some post procedure soreness will follow for a few days, however, full recovery is usually obtained fairly quickly and most get back to their normal routine in a few days.
It is important to note that this Saturday’s drive is not a marrow donation. It is merely joining the registry. Those who qualify as donors will be contacted at a later time.
Saturday’s testing only includes a short health questionnaire and either a cheek swab or small blood sample.
