Santa Claritas Metrolink Ridership Increases

Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s newest report on Metrolink ridership for October 2006 demonstrated an increase in train riders in the Santa Clarita Valley who travel prior to 8:30 a.m.

Santa Clarita averages over 1,100 rail riders per day with Metrolink Stations in Santa Clarita, Via Princess, and Newhall.  Santa Clarita’s morning train travelers top areas such as Lancaster, Palmdale, Burbank, Simi Valley, and Northridge.

“The Santa Clarita Metrolink program has successfully provided an alternative form of transportation to its residents to not only avoid freeway rush hour commutes, but also to contribute positively to the environment,” commented Mayor Laurene Weste.  “The latest ridership figures support the positive impact the Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s Metrolink service is having in our community,” she added.

The report compared 74 Metrolink stations’ a.m. peak daily boarding averages in October 2006 to its a.m. peak daily boarding averages in October 2005.  Santa Clarita had the seventh highest a.m. boarding average behind

areas such as Rancho Cucamonga, Covina, Industry, Fullerton, and North Main Corona.
